SUGGESTED LOCATIONS FOR YOUR FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY SESSION
There are a ton of locations to choose from for your Outer Banks family photography session. Below I will highlight some of the possibilities and explain some of the benefits of each.
Beaches
Southern Beaches
Southern Beaches along Pea Island to Hatteras offer some of the most beautiful untouched beach areas along the Outer Banks. These areas avoid having noise in the background (hotels, houses, etc.).
Northern Beach: Clark Street Beach Access
Northern Beaches between Kitty Hawk and Nags Head are a little busier in nature due to the amenities surrounding these areas; however, there are a few beach accesses that allow for beautiful pictures and avoid all the noise in the background.
Northern Beach: E. Carlton Ave. Beach Access
Beach Sunrise
Beach sunrises along the Outer Banks make for some beautiful pictures. No matter what beach you choose from Corolla to Hatteras, they will be deserted and you have full reign of the location.
Piers
Kitty Hawk Pier
Sunrises and sunsets along this pier make for a great structure in the background. This pier is only used for events; therefore, the foot traffic surrounding this area can be minimal compared to other piers.
Duck Research Pier, Duck, NC
The Army Field Research Facility in Duck, NC is known for its expansive pier and its recognized research.
The research pier facility regularly records the changing winds, currents, waves, and tides. You will find multiple species of shells and sea life if caught at the right tide. The rustic stone columns make for a beautiful backdrop to any family session.
Con, you will have to walk about 1/4 mile along the beach to reach the structure as the surrounding area is restricted. Well worth it though!
Jennette's Pier, Nags Head, NC
Jennette's Pier is located in Nags Head and is a beautiful concrete base pier that was rebuilt many years ago after the hurricane season. This pier allows for beautiful structure and shade on those bright and sunny evenings. With this option, you can get beautiful pictures with or without the structure in your image. With certain positioning, you can get pics without the squinting from sun and appearance of not having a structure above you.
Whalehead Club and Corolla Lighthouse
Whalehead Club, Corolla, NC
The Whalehead Club in Corolla offers multiple locations within one small area. The rustic wooden bridge over the waterway gives you several photo opportunities. The oak trees along the whole property give shade and beauty. The open grounds allow for the Corolla Lighthouse to be seen and the wooden walkway in front of the Whalehead Club also offers multiple photo opportunities.
Boardwalks Along the Sound
Boardwalk, Manteo, NC
The boardwalk along the marsh line and marina in downtown Manteo give you beautiful backdrops. Marshes Light, in the background, is another great opportunity to get great sunset views.
Roanoke Island Festival Park Boardwalk, Manteo, NC
This 1/2 mile - 3/4 mile boardwalks gives you water views, wooded views, and includes a small pier on the south side of the trail. This is a great spot for Senior portraits!
Sound Side Beach Access, Jockey's Ridge State Park
There is a small public beach access behind Jockey's Ridge State Park that has a beautiful walkway to a sandy beach. This is a fantastic area for sunset pictures should the ocean side be too windy.
